Having A Career As An Esthetician

What is an Esthetician?

Estheticians are also known as skincare specialists. They provide a variety of skin care treatments including cleansing, exfoliating, waxing, performing laser treatments and moisturizing the skin. The appearance of one’s skin can have a positive or negative effect on their confidence. That is why many people see an esthetician when they are in need of professional skin care.

The job opportunities for an esthetician are numerous. The job is expected to grow by 13 percent between 2016 and 2026. This is much faster than all other occupations. Females are typically the ones who see an esthetician. However, more men are opting to see an esthetician.

Job Hours

The hours that an esthetician works can vary. Some estheticians work part-time while others work full-time. Many people work Monday through Friday. Others only work on the weekends. It is also important to note that estheticians have many different career options. People have the option of working at a spa, salon or resort. They can also open up their own business. People who open up their own business can work more flexible hours.

The Academy of Hair Design is a company that offers education and training for an esthetician. The educational requirements can vary from state to state. However, the average esthetician completes over 600 hours of training. After you complete your training, you will be required to pass a written and practical examination. Many estheticians will receive additional training on the job because they work with chemicals.

Job Skills

It takes a lot more than just training and education to be a good esthetician. You will need to have technical skills because estheticians are required to perform complex procedures. You will also need to know about potential allergies, skin types and complications that can potentially result from treatments.

Empathy is another important skill that estheticians should have. Many people are sensitive about their appearance. They may also be unable to express exactly what they are looking for. Additionally, some clients may be demanding.

Job Satisfaction

Because most people work until they are in their 60s, it is important to have a job that you love. Most estheticians are satisfied with their career because the stress level is lower than average. Estheticians also have a career with a good work/life balance. Additionally, estheticians have the opportunity to move up in their career and earn a higher salary.
