Crash And Burn

Sorry the site has been unavailable the last couple days.  The computer that hosts my fine blog here crashed.   Fortunately, only the actual web image folders were affected, our WordPress database is hosted on a different machine. Our internet hosting company did their best to restore our information, but their best efforts consisted of a backup [...]

Vacant Vaccines

Every once in a while the “controversy” over whether or not to vaccinate your children gets stirred up again.  You have the doctors and health professionals on one side saying “it’s a no-brainer” and you have the parents on the other side citing all the bad things that can happen if they vaccinate. My main [...]

The Fiasco At Anzio – Chapter 14

Chapter 14 finds my Grandfather still in Anzio near the end of March.  In this chapter he explains how night shelling and firing affected both sides of the beachhead. It really is amazing to me what the soldiers, all soldiers on both sides of the conflict, endured in the name of God and Country.  The [...]

Friday What If? – Quis custodiet custodes ipsos?

This Friday What If is about our diminishing list of civial rights.  The post title is Latin for, “who watches the watchers.”  I’ve blogged on this topic as a Friday What If before, and I don’t want to sound like a broken record (and if you’re old enough to get that metaphor you probably understand [...]

Blackbird Fly

Every once in a while I come across a story that makes me grin.  A friend of mine sent me a link to one that gave me the biggest grin I’ve had in a while. The actual link to the story he gave me does not credit a specific author, and I’m unfamiliar with the [...]

Well, there’s your problem…

I heard about this story from my Wife.  She was kind enough to forward the story and some photos to me so I thought I’d share them. Some local yokel decided to move his mobile home without the proper permits, equipment or sense that one would normally require for such a task.

Let This Be A Lesson

I’m not one to usually poke fun at someones misfortune, but I think in this case it may be appropriate.  I saw a video today about some dude that got injured kite surfing.  Not that unsual, granted, but this time the guy was kite surfing in Florida during tropical storm Fay.

Uncommon UFO

I normally leave the UFO reporting to the tinfoil-hat websites.  There are some, however, that I do occasionally come across that give me pause. This is one of those stories.  Initially, it seemed like every other one you hear.  Folks out at dusk, something big in the sky, moving fast, then stopping, etc.  The difference [...]

The Fiasco At Anzio – Chapter 13

In Chapter 13 of my Grandfather’s manuscript, he pauses the story to give a little more detail on the conditions under which the Allied troops fought on the beachhead. He describes the maladies that afflicted the troops as well as the physical hardships placed upon them by the location and timing of the beachhead landing.  [...]

Photo Frenzy

A year ago, I was totally blown away by Microsoft’s Photosynth application.  It was a proof of concept program, basically, that showed how a computer could take a group of unrelated photos of a given object and use them to construct a 3-D “tour” of the object. It was pretty damn cool.  I must have [...]
