Who Watches The Watchers?

We blogged a few days ago on an abuse of power by the Salem PD, and it seems that Salem is not unique with this problem.  Just yesterday I’ve come across two new stories in other states that push the envelope of believability of what you would think a Police Officer is capable of.

State of Oregon Tries To Put The Screws To Daimler Trucks North America

How screwed up does your state have to be to penalize you for settling a dispute outside of court? Well as we all know, the States are about generating revenue not helping its citizens and they get their feelings hurt (lost out on some money) when these two parties settled out of court. I am [...]

ID Theft To Go

Back when RFID (Radio Frequency Identification for you non-geeks) was shiny and new, and the hottest buzz-word in town, it struck me as a bad idea.  Companies were all fired up about creating “smart cards” and “simplifying transactions” for their customers using this new technology. I thought, given the nature of the device, it was [...]

We Won’t Screw You!

I’ve noticed a few commercials lately for Washington Mutual Bank (Wamu as it’s called locally).  The basic premise of these ads are “We won’t nickel and dime you.”  How screwed up must your industry be if your basic message to customers in your advertisements is “Use us, we don’t screw you over!”

Emeril Joins Forces With Martha

Martha Stewart has struck a deal to acquire the Emeril Lagasse franchise, less his restaurants and corporate office for $50 million. This includes his television programming, cookbooks, and Emeril-branded cookware. When it was announced that Emeril Live would be cancelled months back, we were crushed; since Emeril is spoken with reverence in my house. Now [...]

Health Care Gone Discount

MSN reported today the Wal-Mart would be opening 400 clinics across the country in April. They will partner with local health systems and will jointly bare the names of Wal-Mart and its partners. As health care cost skyrocket and even more people go without needed care, perhaps this type of clinic could fill the cracks [...]

Sunrise – Oregon – Feb 15, 2008

Another fabulous sunrise in Salem, Oregon.

Salem Police (DART Team) Makes Mistakes And Residents Pay The Price

Koin News 6 ran a special report on how the Salem Police (DART Team) blew a Meth house investigation and the residence paid the price by losing a job and interrupted their lives. The police responded to an anonymous tip that this house was a Meth house and contacted the couple at their jobs. Saying, [...]
